Commemorating 40 years of National Junior College

Posted: under Events, News.

Forty years ago, not long after Singapore’s independence, our then Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew opened an education institution based on meritocracy & secularism, & without affiliation to any secondary school. This year, we come together to commemorate the founding of National Junior College with a dinner in our very own college hall!

Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister of Education and Second Minister for Defence, also an alumnus of 1975/76 batch, has kindly agreed to be Guest of Honour for the evening. This will start with the opening of our Boarding School for invited guests at 6 pm, followed at 7 pm by the unveiling of a sculpture commissioned by the NJC Alumni, and designed and donated by Messrs Ti Lian Seng of 1971/72 and Francis Lee of 1969/1970,  both of DP Architects. The celebrations will culminate in the dinner starting at 7.15 pm at the College hall.

16th May 2009 (Saturday)

National Junior College

37 Hillcrest Road

Tickets for the dinner are priced at S$700 per table of 10. Dinner will be Chinese sit-down style, although halal or vegetarian diets can be arranged upon confirmation, not later than 20 April. Dress code : Shirt & Tie.

As seating capacity in our hall is limited to 50 tables, ex-collegians are invited to book & pay for their bookings early to avoid disappointment – bookings are strictly on first-paid basis, whole tables preferred.

It is hoped that all batches of ex-collegians will join in this simple but meaningful commemoration of our start of the history of junior colleges in Singapore.
